Elliot Ackerman is based in Istanbul, Turkey. He has produced a number of works of fiction and essays that have appeared in publications such as The New Yorker, The Atlantic and the New Republican. He is also a decorated veteran, earning a Silver Star and Purple Heart for his role leading a Rifle Platoon in the November 2004 Battle of Fallujah and a Bronze Star for Valor while leading a Marine Corps Special Operations Team in Afghanistan in 2008.
His debut novel, Green on Blue (2015) draws on his experiences in Afghanistan following an Afghan orphan that also details the effects of war in gripping detail. A couple of brothers from the mountainous region of eastern Afghanistan have their world torn apart when armed men enter their small village. One of the brothers must enlist in the Special Lashkar, a US-funded militia. He is quickly transformed from boyhood to manhood as he is thrust into a vicious conflict.
As well as the two novels that have been published, Ackerman has also published a short story titled Istanbul Letters.
